Waterproof Mascara
What is the Waterproof Mascara?
Waterproof mascara is a mascara with a non-water formula. Non-water formula has a lower tendency of getting smudged or spreading over the face with time. They repel water droplets and keep the color pigment safe from draining off.
The Composition of Waterproof Mascara
The best waterproof mascara contains darkening color pigments such as iron oxide, carbon black or other colored pigments. The color pigments darken eyelashes and give them the color you desire.
Next is a polymer which is used to apply a coat on the eyelashes. The polymer makes the mascara waterproof and prevents the color pigment from draining off. Polymer coat makes the mascara water resistant and prevents smudges.
Waterproof mascara has an oil base. Oils or waxes such as paraffin, mineral oil, carnauba wax or castor oil are used to formulate the non-water base of the waterproof mascara. Waterproof mascara has a high quantity of oils and waxes in it to make it water resistant.
The next important ingredient is preservatives. Preservatives keep the product fresh and prevent the production of bacteria and other parasites in the mascara. Preservatives keep the mascara hygienic for use multiple times.
Difference Between a Waterproof and Non-Waterproof Mascara
Natural Waterproof Mascara
Natural waterproof mascara is composed of natural ingredients which keep eyelashes safe from the damages caused by synthetic chemicals that are part of most waterproof mascara available in the market.
Natural mascara has natural polymers added in them which nourish eyelashes and do not dry and dehydrate eyelashes.
The natural polymers coat the eyelashes like regular polymers and keep them protected from water. The only difference here lies that regular polymers stop the entry of moisture entirely and make eyelashes brittle, whereas the natural polymers keep the eyelashes moist and flexible.
Brittle eyelashes are prone to damage and breakage. The hair follicles of brittle eyelashes get damaged, and that damages the natural production of healthy eyelashes whereas natural waterproof mascara keeps the hair follicles healthy, promotes healthy eyelash growth and keeps eyelashes nourished.
